“Where Fun and Faith Take Flight”
Iesdo (Yay-Sa-Doe) is back in another fun film from Zaya Toonz. Featuring two episodes with all your favorite bird friends – and a few new ones – it’s sure to keep your kids both educated and entertained. The Iesodo series takes stories from the New Testament of the Bible and presents them in a kid friendly way. Rather than portraying Jesus and his followers, the movies feature a calm and loving dove named Iesodo, whose sundry flock has given up everything to follow him.
As in other movies in the series, each episode portrays a different story where Iesodo and his followers must overcome some sort of adversity. Though many details are changed to make the message fun and easy to understand for kids, they are still instantly recognizable and deliver the core message well. The first episode, “Miracles Are Everywhere”, is a retelling of the story of the loaves and fishes. Iesodo’s friends are preparing for a long voyage, as many have gathered to hear him speak. They arrive to find thousands of birds waiting, many more than were expected. While a sneaky new character does his best to create havoc by encouraging the birds to fly away in hunger, Iesodo turns a simple snack of five acorns and two fishes into enough to feed them all and then some.
The second episode is entitled “The Wind and the Rain.” Here, Iesodo’s follower bird have their faith sorely tested as they fly through a monstrous storm. They are over a lake, too far from land to find shelter. As they cling tightly to a log lashed by waves, Iesodo appears in circle of light, walking on the water towards them. Frightened though they may have been, the birds soon learn that anything is possible with faith.
Iesodo: Faith is an engaging dvd that kids really enjoy. I watched with kids ranging from five to nine, and they all sat spellbound through both episodes. Kids love animals, but there aren’t tons of movies featuring birds, so it’s a good fit that stands out from the crowd (not to mention Jesus as a dove is really quite fitting). Your kids will love the colorful characters, beautiful backgrounds, and catchy songs that make learning fun.
