Agent Wes Rockwell has royally screwed up his first assignment.
And that sort of thing doesn’t get taken kindly when the stakes are high. So, despite Wes’ years of hard work to get a coveted spot on his dad’s team, he’s being reassigned in the force. But it’s where he’s being assigned to that is the real rub – it’s a top secret agency that Wes has never heard of before, and with good reason. They can’t just let everyone know that their are witches live among us, can they?
Wes has been assigned to the Witches Protection Agency, a force that he thinks must be some sort of big joke. Though he isn’t keen on the new assignment (or his new partner, Alistair), Wes decides that he’s going to just do a great job on his first assignment, and get back on the real force before the end of the month. Of course, Wes has no idea what he’s in for, especially considering that he doesn’t really believe in this whole “witches” thing anyway. So, he rolls his eyes through demonstrations of steampunk-looking weapons and admonitions not to look them in the eye, but it soon becomes apparent that there is a lot Wes doesn’t know – and it could get him killed.
Witness Protection Program is a fun, easy read that doesn’t make you think too much. There’s romance, as Wes falls for one of the good witches the program is trying to protect. And there is plenty of action, as the very powerful bad witches do everything in their power to make sure they won’t be stopped – at any cost. There’s even some intrigue, as readers try to figure out what is behind this resurgence of evil, who stands to benefit, and how some of the more mysterious characters know each other from before. All of that keeps the story moving at a pretty steady pace, and you do want for Wes to succeed, and for Wes and Morgan to finally get together – but none of it really grips you. It’s the sort of book you read when you just want something light and fluffy.
That being said, sometimes light and fluffy is just what you need – especially for a lazy beach read on those hot summer vacations. Witches Protection Program is filled with action and and even a bit of fun, making for a light and easy read that doesn’t make you think too much. It’s a great choice for a quick summer story with loads of paranormal flavor.
