Trial Run by Thomas Locke is a fast paced thriller that will have you questioning what is truly possible.

Trial Run follows three groups of people, all of which are inextricably caught up in the same ground breaking research – whether they know it or not. There is the secretive group of researchers led by Agent Reese Clawson. She’s a tough as nails leader who will absolutely do whatever it takes to get the results she wants – a near undetectable methods of investigation that could open unheard of avenues for exploration and intelligence gathering. Though her research is both cutting edge and completely classified, she struggles with a bureaucracy that threatens to shut her down at any minute if she doesn’t come through with the results they want.

Then there’s Gabriella’s group. They are a completely loyal group of scientists who are devoted to furthering their research into ways to break out of consciousness – exploring levels of time, and creating different pathways to gather knowledge and reach new levels of freedom never before seen. Gabriella is surrounded by people who seem completely devoted to the research – but there is a constant menace driving them to keep their location secret. Someone with the team has revealed too much, and they won’t be safe until their enemy has been neutralized.

And then there are two seemingly unrelated college students who are about to blow things completely out of the water. Shane is a tough young lady – proficient with both numbers and people, and completely unwilling to take any crap from anyone. Trent is an absolutely brilliant grad student who has come by some groundbreaking formulas in an unexpected way. Though the two had never before met, they soon band together to create a partnership. Trent comes up with the formulas, and Shane does the business, neither one having any idea how very much danger the people they are working with can be.

Trial Run is filled with surprises, odd twists and turns, and a really unique story line. Though many portions of the book defy our ideas of consciousness, the way it is laid out makes you believe that it is possible, pulling you into the story and making your root for your favorites to win. Author Thomas Locke does a great job of making the characters human – most of them are likable, some of them not so much, but none of them are perfect. It’s those little imperfections and insecurities that makes the reader relate, making for a really enjoyable read.
