Uses an interesting layout to cover Anne Perry's life in great detail, without making it feel like a textbook.

Not so much?

It can be confusing to go back and forth in Anne's life, but more so because you just can't wait to hear what happened next.

“The hidden life of a bestselling crime writer”

Anne Perry is a fascinating figure on many different levels, each of which could fill an entire book on its own. As a prolific and talented best selling mystery author, she has delighted readers for decades with her vibrant characters, her amazing grasp of history, and her gift for realism. She’s also somewhat of a recluse, preferring a quiet life in the countryside to bright lights and the big city. Anne Perry is also a devout Mormon, having found her way to the church as a young woman. None of that really adds up to the picture we all have of famous authors, but nonetheless, the life Anne Perry leads is both unexpected and an inspiration for her popular tales.

Even more unexpected is the shocking discovery that was unveiled after Anne Perry had made her mark on the world – and the best selling lists. The popular mystery author, made famous by her realistic and engaging portrayals of murder investigations, was herself a murderer – and a rather infamous one at that. Along with her very best friend, a teenaged Anne (then known as Juliet) murdered her friend’s mother as part of a chilling plot to keep the two together in the midst of a looming separation. Though Anne and her friend both paid their debt to society and went on to productive lives, the uncovering of her past was an event that rocked Anne’s quiet world.

The Search For Anne Perry covers all of this and more with a sensitive hand and a eye for the facts. It’s all laid out in a rather unusual way that really works well to uncover bits of Anne’s life a little at a time. The book begins with a young Anne who is on her own in the world, and the beginnings of her career as an author, and then builds with discussions of her efforts to find a place to call home, as well as the very good friends she shares her life with.

As each of her books are covered briefly in the order they are written, the author begins to give readers little glimpses into Anne’s past, covering the events leading up to the murder, the crime itself, and the trial and incarceration that followed each in turn, but they are given as brief flashbacks a little at a time, rather than simply devoting a chapter to it and then moving on. It makes for an interesting pace that keeps readers hanging, while also lending understanding for the events in Anne’s life that have influenced who she is today.

The Search For Anne Perry is an engaging book that keeps readers engrossed with an interesting pace and an in depth look at a simply fascinating life.
