The Expendabros – official tie-in homage free on Steam

Developer Free Lives describe their title Broforce as a “co-operative patriotism simulation”, albeit one filtered through a parade of 80s and 90s action movies, where saving the world generally involved a hero with far too many muscles and a machine gun that rarely needed reloading. And in perhaps one of the most perfectly matched film-to-game unions, a special Expendables 3-themed Broforce title is released today on Steam – The Expendabros.

Let’s face it, the Expendables films themselves are 80s action movie tributes, combining classic muscle-gun combinations with action stars who used this in previous decades. And the game tries to channel this, with scenery and enemies being destroyed en mass. While the game can be played solo, it is a run-and-gun that is ideally played co-op, being one part Metal Slug, another part Contra, and filling the remaining parts with homages and fiery explosions.

As an official tie-in game, it means several of the main team have also been give a ‘bro’ makeover – look forward to playing as Broney Ross [Barney Ross, Sylvester Stallone's character] or Trent Broser [a caricature of Arnold Schwarzenegger's role as Trench Mauser].

If the positive reaction that Broforce has been getting isn’t enough to tempt, the price probably will – Expendabros is free on Steam between now and December 31st.
