We Liked?

  • Old school, run-and-gun shooter, refreshingly rewarding movement and overkill
  • Two gun system is well realised, allowing you to quickly change weapon functions mid-combat
  • Atmospheric, futuristic city - perhaps channelling Blade Runner's aesthetic but setting the mood well

Not So Much?

  • A plot that tries too hard to be clever, instead becoming forgettable by the end of each - admittedly well-presented - cut scene
  • Some level design issues - occasional places to get turned around without guidance on where to go, or some sections being harder than those in levels following
  • The katana should have felt awesome to use. But it seems it was just added to the game without any proper balancing

Final Fiendish Feelings?

Five years after Hard Reset’s release on PC, the Redux version is out, this time letting console players blow away hordes of robots too. GamesFiends takes a look.

The product under review was provided by the creator, manufacturer, publisher or their PR representative free of charge and without caveat. Please see our site review policy for more information.

Family Fiends Findings?

  • Violent, but almost exclusively towards robots – with some zombie-like human/cyborgs in there too.
  • Pretty strong language used during the cutscenes, using profanity in place of clearer characterisation for the main protagonist.

Peter

Peter can be described as an old, hairy gamer, a survivor of the console wars of the 1990s, and a part-time MMO addict. He has an especial fondness for retro gaming and observing the progressions in long running gaming series. When scandalously not caught gaming, he can also be found reading comics and fantasy fiction, or practising terrible photography.
