“Inspired by the best selling books by Janette Oke”

The When Calls the Heart series follows the trials of tribulations of Elizabeth Thatcher, a young teacher who comes from a wealthy family in the city, and is assigned to her first teaching post in a small mining town in the untamed west. As Elizabeth works to find her way as a teacher, she must also adjust to life on the prairie, with all its unfamiliar trials and hard working but soft hearted people. Elizabeth also has to work through her feelings for the young mountie assigned to the town. Jack may be a bit rough around the edges when it comes to matters of the heart, but he certainly seems to be softening towards Elizabeth.

As Change of Heart begins, Jack seems to be finally willing to make his intentions towards Elizabeth official, and the couple make a date for a romantic dinner for two. This news is quickly overshadowed by the surprise arrival of Elizabeth’s impetuous younger sister, Julie. As Julie settles in for a long visit, the differences between the sisters soon become very apparent, as Julie seems to leap into everything with both feet forward and her eyes closed – most notably, a relationship with a mysterious young injured man who has all the right words to sway Julie’s heart, but may not have the best of intentions.

As Julie jumps into romance, Elizabeth and Jack seem to have run into a snag in theirs. When Julie came to town, she was accompanied by a mountie, sent there to take over Jack’s post as constable of Coal Valley. Though Jack had put in for a transfer when he first got to town, his feelings for Elizabeth make the idea of heading out for a new adventure a sad prospect. Though the two have only just come to an understanding about where their relationship is heading, it may not be able to stand the test of being apart. Meanwhile, Jack’s investigation into the safety procedures at the mine may get Elizabeth’s friend Abigail into big trouble. Things seem to be coming to a head in Coal Valley, and not everyone will come out of it with their hearts intact.

When Calls the Heart: Change of Heart is a heart warming film that the whole family can enjoy together. Though the topics at hand can often be rather heavy, they are presented in a way that is oftentimes light hearted, giving viewers a look inside the characters as they tough it out through some very difficult situations. Although it looks as though Elizabeth and Jack may finally come together, one thing’s for certain – it won’t be easy.
