The Gift is a science fiction short by Carl Erik Rinsch about a gift that is given to a prominent figure that is used as a distraction for an assassination of the figure. The gift is a rare item that ends up being the target of interest for the assassinated man’s android butler. The visuals of this movie are very impressive and the cinematography is top notch especially for such a short film.

The only complaint I have is the story is a bit hard to understand. There isn’t much back story so it’s hard to tell if the gift is the important part of the story or the assassination. It can be difficult to give a full backstory when you are talking about a 5 minute film though. Usually this is done in dialog, but there is very little in this film.

While Rinsch does not have much of a film resume, this shows a lot of promise for what he is capable of. I’m sure Rinsch will be a much more known commodity once he brings his great visual style to the Keanu Reeves’ film 47 Ronin which comes to theaters later this year. Keep your eye out for that one.
