An opportunity to add education to screen time, with tons of animals for kids to enjoy.

Not so much?

It's pretty basic in its nature, an interactive book rather than a game.

An Interactive Children’s Mini-Encyclopediascreen640x640

For those mobile happy kids who just love to play on your phone, it can be difficult to find quality apps that don’t break the bank. Sure, there are tons of free apps available for kids, but then you are forever dealing with ads and in-app purchases, which are difficult for young kids to understand (and ignore). Even paid apps aren’t always appropriate for young kids – plus, it’s nice to throw a little education into the whole “screen time” thing. Who Lives in a Tree is a great little interactive app that will appeal to young kids who love animals – and don’t they all?

screen40x640

It’s a pretty simple premise. The app basically consists of a really tall tree. Kids can scroll up or down, and encounter all kinds of different animals and insects who make trees their home. For each animal on the tree, there is also a bunch of information for curious kids. The app automatically reads these as the kids encounter them, and you can click on the animal again to hear it as many times as you like. If the kids are of reading age (or if parents just prefer to read to their kids), you can turn off the voice and read independently.

The app doesn’t limit kids to staying in order or anything like that. You can scroll up and down the tree at will, stopping wherever you like and going back to favorites. In the background, nature sounds and kid friendly music play, though you can also turn those off if you like. The graphics are pretty basic in that most things a pretty much just pictures, but you can tap the animals to make them come alive – a surefire hit for young players. It’s all colorful and kid friendly, taking kids from a mole living in the roots of the tree to the very highest branches, and everything in between.

Who Lives in a Tree? is a pretty basic interactive app that lets young kids learn about tree dwellers in a colorful and kid friendly way. With colorful animals friends and lots of interesting facts for your budding scientists to study, it offers an educational alternative to the standard screen time fare. While it’s not technically a game, it’s a bit like a favorite book that can be visited again and again, and it’s sure to be a favorite of young animal lovers.
