Sonic Jump (iOS) Review
We liked?
- Sonic Teams great characters
- Smooth & colourful grapgics
- Ideal for short bursts of play
Not so much?
- Controls can be a little fiddly at times
- Soon becomes repetitive
Sonic Jump is a neat game that will return more enjoyment than the cost you’ve put in to it. The looks are colourful and bright and the power-up system will keep things fresh for the short term. More than just a Doodle jump clone, Soic Jump puts in some uniquely Sonic touches ad keeps the game entertaining.
Ideal for bus trips or waiting in line at the checkout this will keep you bouncing.
Sonic Jump is an odd offering from Sega. The once mighty publisher, taking their once mighty iconic character and producing a knock-off of a 69p mobile game. I bet if the creators of Doodle Jump had been told that one day this would happen they’d probably have laughed… then cried a little.
Falls of an icon aside though wat about the game? Well what we have is indeed an interpretation of the game style made popular on mobile platforms by Doodle Jump back at the launch of the iPhone. Here you take control of Sonic with the express purpose of seeing just how high you can get him.
Using tilt mechanics your constantly jumping blue hedgehog must navigate from platform to platform without ever missing and falling to his spiky haired doom. The game does employ some neat power-up elements such as performing certain tasks throughout a play-through or jumping on platform A x number of times. You can then use these power-ups, as well as others you buy with in game credit, to aid your ascension and increase your scores and satisfy you frantic ring gathering fetish.
The game plays well, offers a reasonable enough challenge and keeps you coming back for more each time. The power-up elements are well thought out and add to this sense of longevity and “one more go!”. That said the game is ultimately shallow and offers little more than a short term distraction.
Thankfully the game looks great with bright sonic series colours in full force. Frame rate is smooth and never glitches or causes you a cheap death. Animation is likewise silky smooth and utilises many elements and characters from the long running Sonic the Hedgehod franchise.
Final Thoughts
