Final Fiendish Findings?

Funky Smuggle Truck is a great game that will make you smile and bop your head to the funk-a-delic grooves. The game play is simple yet devilishly addicting as time goes on.

Funky Smugglers may well be one of my nominations for game name of the year! The fact the game seems to have little to do with trucks is neither here nor there.

What the game is about though is you being the operator of an airport scanner device. Far from being a biting satire or gritty recreation of those lovely PSA types this game is all about object manipulation and funky beats.

As you start each wave a certain number of passengers exit the newly docked flight. As this array of reprobates pass through your scanner you see their skeletal outline and any items they may have hidden about their person. If that item happens to glow red then it’s your job to grab it and toss it out of the scanner – miss one and you lose one of your 3 lives. Items in the scanner can be scissors, guns, grenades, screwdrivers.. all manner of deadly items.

As the levels progress you so does the number of passengers, their speed and the difficulty of the level in question. Luckily there are some neat power-ups, like the magnet, that help you through each level.

Graphically the game is a blast. Sure it’s not a powerhouse like Infinity Blade but it just looks great. Big colourful characters, some massive hair-dos and splashes of primary colours all over the place. All this graphical flare works in beautiful tandem with the funktastic soundtrack. Plenty of great voice over silliness and these brilliant music tracks just help combine to solid enough parts in to a special whole product.

The game is a might repetitive and after awhile things do get a little hum-drum. It also employs an internal micro-transaction system that doesn’t necessarily offer and great benefits to the players.

Final thoughts

Funky Smugglers is a great game that will make you smile and bop your head to the funk-a-delic grooves. The game play is simple yet devilishly addicting as time goes on.

An idea game for a short train or bus journey this is what gaming on the go is all about. The repetitive nature of these games will ultimately be its downfall but, whilst the groove lasts, it’s an absolute blast to play.
