An interesting concept that blends a player driven story line with casual gaming.

Not so much?

Very heavy on the romance (not that that's a bad thing...)

Final Fiendish Findings?

Everlove: Rose is like curling up with a good book and a relaxing casual game, all rolled into one tidy package. With an engaging story line that is player driven and very replayable, romance fans are sure to come back to this game again and again.

“…brings romance to life.”tumblr_ms087m5kjN1rmut2ko1_500

Everlove: Rose is a different type of game. Half casual gaming experience, half interactive romance novel, it’s a game that will keep you guessing till the end – and replaying multiple times. You play as Rose, a modern day woman who is being plagued by disturbing dreams. Your therapist, Dr. Alys, has decided to try past life regression as a way to uncover the source of the dreams. As you slip under the spell of hypnosis, you are taken deep into a medieval past life, to live out your previous self’s life in search of clues to guide the present.

Most of the game is played out in this past, although you are brought back here and there for discussion sessions with Dr. Alys. As you meet various new characters in a village called Heart’s Home, you are given choices on how your character will interact with those around you. Each of your choices is then evaluated based on five personality traits: kindness, romance, responsibility, wisdom, and will.  Choosing a very romantic path will earn you romance points, while being more practical will fill you up with responsibility points, and so forth. While these choices significantly effect the path your time in Heart’s Home will take, none of them are set in stone. You can rewind a conversation at any time and make a different choice, or go back to the map and replay the conversation entirely.

The biggest place these points make a difference is in your relationships with men. There are four different men vying for your attention during your time in Heart’s Home, and you must choose the answers that appeal to them in order to increase their affection for you – thereby making them more likely to spill their secrets. Making the correct choices will results in hearts appearing, and each section with the men will show you a graphic of how many hearts could be earned versus how many you’ve achieved. Guessing which approaches each man will prefer isn’t always easy, but again , you can always go back and replay conversations to improve your score.

No one has the time to string along four guys at once, even in a video game, and Rose is no exception. Eventually, you have to make a choice. There are four paths on the road to the end of the game, each signifying one of the men. Choosing a different man changes how the game plays out, and of course the decisions you make after you select a man also effect your outcomes. This all adds up to a whole lot of replay value.

While the emphasis in Everlove: Rose is definitely on reading and romance, there is some low-key gaming involved as well. Rose is a healer, and must periodically got out into the forest to gather herbs for her remedies. This is played out in classic hidden object adventure style, with a fixed screen and a list of plants to find below it. You’ll also search for pieces of paper, which must then be reassembled in a puzzle mini game. That is pretty much the extent of the “gaming” to be had in Everlove: Rose, but the game doesn’t suffer for it. Using your skill at managing people, combined with a knowledge of your personal leanings, makes for a very interesting concept that romance fans are sure to love.
