Oh, my. These headphones are a customizer’s (or a fashionista’s) dream. With interchangeable parts that can be mixed up to suit your outfit, your mood, and your life, the Tracks headphones from SOL REPUBLIC have cool down to a science.
Even at first glance, Tracks are obviously not your average headphone. As you flip open the lid of the box, you’ll find pieces of the headphones nestled into foam. They don’t come assembled – right from the start, you can mix them up however you like (provided you’ve invested in some extra pieces). No worries if you aren’t all that good at assembling things – putting them together is a breeze. There are four separate pieces, including two earpieces, the cord, and the headband. The earpieces slide smoothly onto the headband, and the cord plugs into the bottom of the earpieces (everything is marked “L” and “R” to ensure you put it together correctly). Surprisingly, everything holds fast and fits snugly, but is also easy to remove.
Easy removal is key with these headphones, because the idea is that you can buy each piece in a variety of different colors, and then mix and match to your heart’s delight. It’s a really cool feature, giving the wearer a wide range of possibilities to suit their mood. It also makes it super easy to replace a single broken part, although this is definitely a headset that is built to last. SOL REPUBLIC states that the interchangeable headbands are built of an “advanced polymer compound” that is “virtually indestructible”. Much as it pained me to do so (treat the pretty electronics nicely is kind of the house motto), I wanted to try it out for myself. You can twist them back and forth, you can bend them until they are pretty much flat, and you won’t get a crack or break – awesome.
So durability is a great feature, but comfort is also really important (especially if you’re wearing them for long sessions – and who doesn’t?). The earpieces on the Tracks headphones are designed to rest comfortably on top of your ears. As someone with a somewhat smaller head, I often find it challenging to get headphones that fit just right. The Tracks skirts this issue entirely with the setup of the headband. As I stated earlier, the headband slides right into the earpieces - if you need them to be smaller, you can keep sliding all the way until the headband pops out underneath the earpieces. This makes them virtually customizable to any size (kids included), giving you a truly proper fit. The earpieces sit comfortably on your ears, and are thickly padded with an uber soft leather-look finish. There is padding along the top of the headband as well, allowing it to rest comfortably across the top of your head.
The style of Tracks provides a really nice fit, that serves well to drown out background noise – which you’re going to love, because the sound quality of these headphones is really top-notch. From hard pumping heavy metal, to soft crooning ballads, to everything in between, you get a really nice, mellow sound that is crystal clear and doesn’t skimp the bass. For this price point, you’d be hard pressed to find a headset that comes close. For added convenience, you also get controls on the cord, allowing you to change the volume and answer calls without ever having to touch your device.
The Tracks on-ear headphones from SOL REPUBLIC offer a whole lot of value for a relatively small price tag. With high quality sound, the convenience of in-line controls, and a truly custom fit, they have everything you could ask for in a quality set of headphones. Add in their near indestructible headband and the uber cool option to customize every piece, and you have a truly awe-inducing gift to tuck under the tree this holiday season.
