Interesting artwork accompanies calming meditations.

Not so much?

It's certainly not for everyone, but will be enjoyable for those who are very spiritual.

“A hand-drawn path to inner peace”

If you’ve ever wanted to become more zen, but just didn’t know where to start, then Yumi Sakugawa’s new book might be just what you’re looking for. Half art book, half guide to inner peace, it’s one whole volume that is completely at one with the universe. It’s a new way to think about meditating and becoming more connected, and it serves well to put you in the right frame of mind to really look deep within yourself.

Of course, there are many different books out there about how one goes about achieving inner peace, and they all have a lot in common, particularly in the area of advising the reader to search within themselves to find the right path.  Your Illustrated Guide to Becoming One With the Universe does that as well, going so far as to give you various assignment from the universe that are meant to lead you slowly in the right direction.

These little lessons range from advising you to simply pay attention and listen, to the much more difficult task of letting go of those things you no longer need. The book is set up to make a natural progression from the more simpler tasks of beginning to connect, to the more difficult ones that will inevitably arise on your path to enlightenment. Because everything is arranged into small lessons, it makes it easy to do just a little bit at a time, so as not to get overwhelmed.

In the spirit of getting rid of the extraneous things we don’t need, Your Illustrated Guide to Becoming One With the Universe is not at all wordy. The only words you’ll find in the book are the reflections and assignments that you are given. In fact, reading through the book sounds a bit like a session of meditations, with only short statements to get you started. Rather than relying on only words to get the point across, the book instead uses images as a part of the reflections. Each page is filled with simple black and white drawings that reflect the messages of soul searching and oneness that the book seeks to convey.

Your Illustrated Guide to Becoming One With the Universe is certainly not a book that everyone will enjoy. But it is a book that anyone could appreciate, if they give it a chance. After all, most of us could use a bit of slowing down and reflecting in our busy lives. With imaginative artwork and thought provoking assignments, it’s a great gift for your friends and family members who enjoy feeling a great oneness with the universe – and a great stepping stone for those of us who would like to slow down and pay a little more attention, but just don’t know how to get started.
