A scandal filled thriller that gets right to the heart of Washington intrigue.

Not so much?

There are a few small tangents that seem to have little to do with the overall story.

The Washington Lawyer begins with scandal, as so many things in Washington do. A powerful congressman takes excess one step too far, and his endless quest for money and power looks like it may all come crashing down on him – but he isn’t exactly ready to make that happen without a fight. One drowning death under mysterious circumstances and a quickly thrown together cover-up later, and it looks like Jasper might just have pulled off the task of keeping his house of cards standing for another day. But there’s one thing he didn’t count on – the dead woman’s sister.

When Allison gets the fateful call informing her of her sister’s death, she knows right away that something just isn’t right about the story she’s being told. For one thing, her sister was an accomplished swimmer. But the thing that really stands out is the fact that her sister was supposedly alone on the tropical vacation where she lost her life. As much as Allison loves her sister, she is pragmatic enough to realize that her somewhat shallow and calculating sister could only have been there with a man. But who was that man, and why did he abandon her sister’s body on a lonely beach? Few clues point the way, but Allison is dead certain of one thing – she will find the heartless man who left her sister’s body to the elements, and she will bring them to justice.

What follows is a tale of intrigue, cover-ups, and senseless power grabbing that could only take place in Washington D.C. When a career in politics is on the line, formerly good men will do the unthinkable to keep hold of that power – even if it means abandoning principles and the honor they once held dear. As Allison pries deeper and deeper into her sister’s life, she uncovers a plot that threatens the very security of our country. Though she fights for her sister’s memory, there are others who are fighting desperately for their lives, their careers, the safety of their families – and all of that depends on Allison not finding out the truth about her sister’s death. She soon finds out that avenging one death could very well lead to her own.

The Washington Lawyer is filled with all of the scandal you’d expect from a political thriller, and it’s pretty unpredictable to boot. Though there are a few small tangents where it seems to deviate needlessly from the main plot, for the most part it stays focused on the two opposing forces – Allison, determined to find out what really happened, and several groups who need to keep her away from the truth, at any cost.
