An interesting take on an old standby.

Not so much?

Some parts are a bit predictable, by they always end up resolving in an unusal way.

Nothing is ever as it seems.

Tamed, a new novel by Douglas R. Brown, brings fiction and suspense to a whole new level. Sometime in the not so distant future, one enterprising individual has brought the latest in designer pets to the world. At a cost of a cool quarter million each, these are an exclusive pet that the wealthy and trendy can’t wait to get their hands on.

What could this highly sought after and extremely expensive new animal possibly be to warrant such attention? Werewolves. You heard that right – werewolves, although they don’t call them that (too common). Everyone wants a werg. Even though they are taller than any man and extremely powerful, these trophy pets are guaranteed to be docile and loyal by the multimillion dollar company that sells them. And of course, they aren’t *really* werewolves in the true sense of the word, since no one has ever seen one change into a human. Yes, the Werehouse guarantees you’ll have a gentle loving non-human pet that will be the envy of your friends – and a big company like that would never be dishonest, right?

As a paramedic, Christine Alt has seen her share of scary stuff. It takes a lot to rattle this seasoned pro, but for some reason the wergs have always left her feeling a bit scared. When she and her partner, Billy, come face to face with the powerful creatures on a blind call gone bad, Christine’s entire life changes in an instant. As she struggles to come to grips with the sudden upheaval in her life, she becomes more and more determined that someone must expose the Werehouse for what it really is.

Tamed is one of those books that is filled with twists and turns, where you are just on the edge of your seat waiting for the next shoe to drop. Most of the time, you think you see everything coming, but are ultimately surprised by the way it all turns out. With a cast of engaging characters, from the homeless veteran with heart, to the hunter turned compassionate, to the stereotypical greedy millionaire, Tamed is a book that’s well worth a read. And at a price of just $2.99 for your favorite e-reader, you just can’t go wrong.
