We liked?

Loaded with in depth science and fast paced thrills.

Not so much?

The science gets rather technical at times.

Final Fiendish Findings?

The author of Prophet of Bones, Ted Kosmatka, has an unusual background that shines in this book. Having had a great deal of experience in both laboratory work and in video games, he meshes realistic science with fast paced thrills in a near perfect combination in Prophet of Bones. It will keep you guessing, straight till the end – and you’ll love every minute of it.

There are things that ordinary people are never meant to see.

Be it the government, untouchable corporations, the military, religion, or some other powerful force, people in power have long taken it upon themselves to hide things from us, for “our own good”. Just thinking about all the things that could be going on right now, under our very noses, is enough to make any conspiracy theorist deliriously happy at the possibilities. For Ted Kosmatka, it is the basis of his newest book, Prophet of Bones.

Prophet of Bones follows the never dull life of Paul Carlsson, a scientist who is particularly gifted in the area of bones. We first meet young Paul as a precocious child, as he is growing up under the thumb of his unstable yet brilliant father, but most of the book is set solidly in the present. As a brilliant sampler, Paul studies bones of many different origins, both in the field and in a lab. Using the latest scientific techniques, everything from the age of the bone to what the creatures’ main diets were can be discovered, and Paul is one of the best in his field.

Right from the start, we get glimpses of an eccentric yet extraordinarily powerful billionaire who is pulling the strings on a variety of clandestine projects. When he secretly hires Paul to collect DNA samples from some very strange bones on the remote Indonesian island of Flores, Paul has no idea how quickly the very foundations he has always held to be true will be shattered. Soon Paul is running for his life, yet he cannot let go of the things he saw in Flores.

What are these bones? Paul’s never seen anything like it, and someone very powerful doesn’t want him to find out. And yet, Paul simply cannot let it go. While he runs for his very life, Paul is still doing everything in his power to uncover the truth – and in doing so, expose the people who are behind it all. Of course, they want nothing more than to crush Paul, and so ensues a race against time. Will Paul figure out what’s going on before it’s too late? Can powerful forces convince him to go against all he believes in? Which is more important, science or morality? Readers are pulled along the wild ride that is Paul’s life, never knowing what will come next.
