Full Fiendish Findings...

Everything that Kyra has ever known was snatched out of her reach the instant she tried to kill the princess.

Friends, family, good food, a warm place to sleep – all are gone, replaced by a life on the run and a desperate hope to finish what she started. But Kyra is not your ordinary sixteen year old. As a highly skilled potions master, her hands are trained to create everything from an invisibility potion to a truth serum to a highly deadly poison – and she is one of the best. Known for her skill at throwing poison tipped needles, it was instantly evident who had attempted to take the princess’ life – but why? Besides the obvious reasons, the princess was Kyra’s very best friend.

Whatever the reason, Kyra did try – unsuccessfully – to assassinate the future queen, and now her life has changed forever. Her determination to finish the job means she can’t leave her homeland; instead, she must hide in the shadows and wait for a second chance. While she has become accustomed, after three months, to a hardscrabble life on the run, meeting two unlikely companions, a carefree boy named Fred and a talented pig, might just turn things around.

Poison is an upcoming novel by Bridgit Zinn, for the Disney Book Group, set to release in March of this year. While it is rated for teens and young adult, Poison is a story that anyone can enjoy. There isn’t any objectionable or violent content or swearing, so it’s perfectly safe even for young readers. In fact, it would make a great book for families to read together, as the characters are engaging and the story exciting, whatever your age.

Author Zinn does a great job with Poison. She puts you right inside Kyra’s head, and lets you struggle along with her as she works her way through the mystery of what is going on with the princess, who she can trust, and how to go about saving the kingdom. The fact that she must do all that while constantly fighting for her life and freedom makes for an exciting story that will keep you guessing at every turn. While Kyra is all business – highly skilled with her potions, blessed with a deadly aim with her poisoned needles, and possessed of a veritable candy shop of potions at her disposal – cheerful Fred and the cute little pig named Rosie provide levity and fun, a perfect balance to Kyra’s hardened ways.

Poison is a great addition to any family library. With engaging characters, an exciting and unpredictable story line, and a skillful author, this is a book that is definitely worth a read.
