As the evil dark elves prepare for The Darkening, their former power structures in upheaval, goddesses will battle and worlds will be rocked in a finish that you will truly never see coming.
The Companions of the Hall are back!
R.A. Salvatore thrills with the latest volume in the Sundering series, Night of the Hunter. Catti-brie, Bruenor, Wulfgar, and Regis are once again reunited with Drizzt Do’Urden, and things are a lot different this time around. Though Drizzt has lived, loved, fought, and struggled through the years after their deaths, he never truly let go of his ties to his loyal companions. Years have passed though, and literally lifetimes for the Companions, so while it feels like old times to Drizzt, there is much that has changed.
As Drizzt and the Companions set off their new adventures with a strong purpose, Drizzt’s previous companions are also on their way. The skilled fighter Dahlia along with her wizard son Efron, soft spoken monk Afafrenfere, the stout dwarf Ambergris, and Artemis Entreri, the deadly assassin who has fought with equal determination both against and with Drizzt Do’Urden. As Dahlia and Entreri work through their misgivings about exactly what they are to each other, things soon take a deadly turn. The two groups of companions meeting again is a certainty, but all of them coming out of it alive is definitely not.
Night of the Hunter is a book that grips you right from the start. Like most Drizzt Do’Urden novels, it focuses a lot on introspection as Drizzt wrestles with his personal demons and tries to find some sort of meaning to it all. Unlike most though, this one has a decidedly light hearted tone. Though Drizzt and his newly reunited friends face death at every turn, they choose to revel in their adventure and their reunion, enjoying every bit of battle for the second chance it is.
Things aren’t all sunshine and light though (that would be hard on Drizzt’s eyes). Drizzt’s previous companions walk a decidedly darker road. While some of that is by choice, when they are forced once again into a fight for their very lives, much of those choices are stripped from them as they fight for survival. Death may come softly for some, but never for those captured by the drow. As the evil dark elves prepare for The Darkening, their former power structures in upheaval, goddesses will battle and worlds will be rocked in a finish that you will truly never see coming.
