Mad favorites old and new, chosen by the minds at Mad themselves.

For Mad junkies, the idea of choosing just one favorite, from the many years it has been in production, is a mind boggling task. Imagine then, how difficult it must be for the editors, writers, and artists who have made Mad their career to choose only one from the many. And yet, that’s just what they had to do for Inside Mad. The folks behind those thought provoking, irreverent, and oftentimes scandalous parodies present their favorite spoofs from Mad’s more than sixty years of churning out comedy gold.

The spoofs themselves make a great book, particularly for fans of the magazine. They are each presented, in their entirety, in vibrant color or stark black and white – exactly as they first appeared amidst the pages of the magazine. The book is a hefty volume with nice thick pages of a large enough size to make the comics easy on the eyes when reading, and there’s even a giant full cover pullout to feat your eyes on. It’s all held together in with a hard cover decorated in true Mad fashion – making it great for display (and sturdy enough to stand up to repeated reading or passing around with friends). And clocking in at 256 pages, it’s a book that will provide hours of entertainment.

You don’t just get the parodies though – each one is presented with a commentary from the Mad mind that selected it. Whether they’ve selected one of their own works, or that of a favorite coworker past or present, each one gives a nice write up on why they have chosen it. In addition, they often give fresh insights into life at the Mad offices, how they got hooked on Mad as a kid, and more. It’s a really cool look inside that makes you feel like you’re right there with them, reliving your own Mad obsessions.

There are also seventeen different celebrity love letters to all that is Mad. Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Hawk, Penn Jillette, Harry Hamlin, Slash – they are as varied as can be, but all united in a childhood love for Mad. Each of them writes a bit about what Mad has meant for them, how they felt about being parodied, and more. Rather than a favorite clip, each of the celebrity commentaries is followed by the Mad spoof they featured in.

Inside Mad is the perfect gift for the Mad super fan in your life. With spoofs from every era of Mad, personally selected and narrated by Mad staffers old and new, it offers a look inside Mad that few true fans could resist.
