A kid friendly monster book with unique artwork and, of course, a happy ending.

Not so much?

It's a fun read, but a little forgettable.

Mmmmm….boooooks.

I Want To Eat Your Books takes a fun Halloween staple (zombies) and turns it on its head. A young boy at school is surprised (and more than a little scared) to see a yellow-eyed green-skinned zombie shuffling towards him. Fearful thoughts of become a zombie entree are running through his head as the zombie declares, “I want to eat your….books!” Books? Now that’s a new one. But as the smiling monster starts to unleash devastation on all the books in the classroom, the boy is determined to save not just his favorite (Frankenstein), but the entire library from the rampaging zombie’s ravenous jaws. But how?

Just when it looks like all is lost, the boy comes up with the perfect solution, and shows the zombie a book about brains. I know what you’re thinking – that the zombie decides brains would taste better than books. Not quite (although that story line definitely has potential). Instead, the zombie realizes that books are far better read than consumed, and soon settles in for some reading of his own. He even shares his love for reading with a wayward mummy who shuffles into the library next. It’s happy endings all around as the two new monstrous friends enjoy the library together.

I Want To Eat Your Books is a fun, kid friendly way to start getting in a monster-y mood for Halloween. It has all the fun of a great zombie story, without anything at all that’s scary. The zombie is pretty cute, in his green undead way, and nothing but a few pages are ever in danger. With Halloween right around the corner, it’s a great choice for some spooky bedtime reading with your little monsters.
