A unique and gripping story coupled with dark and edgy artwork keeps you engaged till the very end.

Not so much?

Very mature content, with graphic sex and plenty of violence.

“The virus is going to enhance and then kill you. There is no cure. You can either do something with what remains of your life…or spend the next six months waiting to die.”

Monty Nero’s Death Sentence Collection starts off with a “killer” premise – the main characters have contracted a sexually transmitted disease with a most unusual presentation. Those who are infected with the G-plus will get a double whammy of unbelievable events. First off, G-plus is one hundred percent fatal. Once symptoms appear, its victims live only an average of six months before death consumes them. The kicker is, before the virus kills you – it enhances you. What that means is different for different people, but essentially the victims will be blessed with super hero like powers that range from things like flying and phasing through objects to creating explosions and mind control. It’s a whole lot to wrap your head around, but the whole superpower thing makes it a deadly virus that some people are very willing to take on.

The story line in the Death Sentence Collection centers around three sufferers who are very different – and yet similar in some very fundamental ways. There’s Verity, the artist who always dreamed of doing great things with her art, yet ended up paying the bills as a burned out graphic designer instead. She had such plans for her life, and plenty of time to make her dreams come true – or so she thought. Now she’s faced with imminent death and a struggle to make a difference before she dies. Weasel is the stereotypical drugged up rocker. As part of a successful band, Weasel gained the eternal adoration of a number of fans who have stuck with him despite his fall from grace and a decidedly disappointing solo career. While Weasel parties like it’s a full time job, it’s obvious his life was falling apart bit by bit before the virus ever made an appearance. Can a character who seems to have nothing to offer to anyone but himself ever really change his ways? Finally, we have Monty. Monty is a Russell Brand clone who has built a career out of crudity. When the virus offers him gifts of near unstoppable power, it soon become evident that only another of the enhanced can hope to stop him.

The Death Sentence Collection is dark. It’s incredibly violent and very mature. In other words, don’t give it to your kids. That being said, it is an incredibly gripping story that is tough to put down. The characters are both believable and unattainable, the plot is very unpredictable and really quite unique, and the art is top notch, giving readers a sense of immersion in the story that is essential to its overall feel. This is a book you won’t want to put down – even if you are a little disturbed at times.
