A great way to get young gamers off of the screen and into a book.

Not so much?

Definitely geared toward younger gamers, around ages 9-12.

An unofficial Minecrafter’s adventure

Bacca is the king of crafters. Others line up to see his latest creations, and he’s committed to making the best Minecraft has to offer – but his latest adventure might just test his skills to their very limits. As Bacca heads to bed for a much needed rest after yet another successful display, he’s awakened by a very unexpected visitor – a diamond dragon. He has travelled from another biome to find the only hope for him and his dragon friends – Bacca. Back at his home, the dragons are fading fast after creepers stole their magical orb. It will take the skills of a very special crafter to work his way through the riddles and battles set up to guard the orb. The fate of the dragons rests on Bacca’s shoulders, and this is one battle he can’t afford to lose.

Bacca and the Riddle of the Diamond Dragon is set in the world of Minecraft, the incredibly popular crafting game that has been a resounding success on a variety of platforms. Though Minecraft is enjoyed by gamers of all ages, young gamers are especially captivated by the game. As great as Minecraft is, most parents don’t want their kids to spend every waking minute in front of screen. Bacca and the Riddle of the Diamond Dragon is a perfect compromise – kids get to spend time in the Minecraft world they know and love, and parents can be happy to see their kids getting lost between the pages of a book.

The book itself is filled with references that Minecraft fans will enjoy, but it’s also enjoyable for kids who haven’t played the game. Bacca’s adventures are filled with plenty of action, and even some intense battles, but a lot of attention is paid to making sure they are both age-appropriate and positive. No matter whether he’s facing a cave spider or a potion throwing witch, Bacca always attempts to solve things peacefully before turning to his diamond axe. Even after defeating foes in battle, he shows kindness to them. There are some good lessons hidden in all the crafting, about helping people out, not judging others based on their looks, and always offering a second chance to do good. It’s a perfect choice to get young gamers hooked on a good book.
