A true triumph over tragedy tale.

Not so much?

Difficult subject matters.

Final Fiendish Findings?

After The Crash isn’t a feel good story in the conventional sense. There can be nothing “feel good” about the events that begat this story. What it is, is a tale of how even the most tragic of circumstances can be overcome. It is a story of trusting your instincts, fighting for your child, and never giving up. By sharing how he and Lio triumphed against all odds, he gives hope that others can do the same.

It’s a father’s worst nightmare; you kiss your wife and child goodbye, only to find out hours later that your life has been inexorably changed in an instant.

Martin Spinelli took off that morning in just the same way he had so many other times. As his wife Sasha dropped him at the train station, he kissed her and his four year old son Lio goodbye with an unfamiliar sense of unease. As he brushed off his feelings of distress, he had no way of knowing it would be the last time he would see his beloved wife. Hours later, his life was irreversibly changed by the unfortunate decisions of a truck driver who hadn’t been taking his mandated rest breaks. Sasha was killed immediately in the horrific crash, and poor Lio was near death.

As he entered the hospital that night, Martin resolved to do anything necessary to help Lio recover. Unfortunately, that is a near insurmountable task. With a shattered legs and massive brain injuries, doctors are uncertain if Lio will ever even wake from his coma, much less go on to live a normal life. After The Crash is Lio’s story; it’s Sasha’s story; but more than that, it is Martin’s story. In his own words, Martin tells a heartbreaking story of loss, desperation, and a true miracle. As doctors and well meaning friends tell him to prepare for the worst, Martin makes bringing Lio back from the brink his only priority.

After The Crash is simply heartbreaking, and Martin Spinelli holds nothing back in his accounting. From the overwhelming feelings of sorrow at the loss of his wife of fifteen years, to his desperation at the thought he might lose everything that really matters in one fell swoop, he gives readers an unfiltered look at what it’s really like to face down such a tragedy. Even more so, he shows how even the most tragic of situations can have a happy ending, for Lio’s unlikely recovery is a miracle that captivated everyone he came in contact with.
