Final Fiendish Findings?

A Bitch Called Hope is a fast paced, impossible to predict story that will have you hanging on every word just to get it all figured out. It’s a great read for mystery fans, and while there is a hint of romance thrown in, it’s Lennox who makes you swoon.

Lennox Cooper has had one very bad year. But now, one case has the potential to turn around the landslide the has been her life – if she doesn’t screw it up.

A Bitch Called Hope, the title of Lily Gardner’s new book, is both a poker term and a metaphor for Lennox’s life. In Texas Hold ‘Em, drawing a queen-eight has earned this colorful name, because that beautiful queen gives you false hope of making a hand, even though it is statistically very unlikely. In Lennox’s life, she has been very unlucky lately, due mostly to betting on the wrong hand. An affair with her married partner ultimately ruined her life and got her kicked off the police force. Now, she’s trying to build a new life as a private investigator, but deceptive cards from the past keep turning up, threatening to topple her new-found purpose.

The life of a typical private investigator is not all glamour and high speed chases like you see on tv. Stuck in a constant loop of insurance surveillance, Lennox misses the excitement, danger, and chance to do good that she had as a homicide detective. So when the chance to investigate a murder falls into her lap, she jumps at the chance. She soon finds that investigating as a police officer and investigating as a civilian are two very different things, and soon realizes that it isn’t just a life behind bars for her client that is at stake. Her family, her love life, innocent bystanders, and even her own life could all be lost in the quest for the truth. If Lennox can’t set aside her personal feelings and get at the truth, a cold blooded murderer will go free.

In A Bitch Called Hope, Lily Gardner present a heroine who is a lot more human than we’re used to. Lennox does not always do the right thing; in fact, it was doing some very wrong things that got her into her current situation. She wants the same thing we all do: love, family, a fulfilling career, she just doesn’t know how to go about getting them at this stage in her life. The fact Lennox is just so normal, facing tough decisions almost daily but not really sure which is the right path, is what makes her so relatable. She’s real, and so is her story.

A Bitch Called Hope is a fast paced, impossible to predict story that will have you hanging on every word just to get it all figured out. It’s a great read for mystery fans, and while there is a hint of romance thrown in, it’s Lennox who makes you swoon.
