Tons of variety to play around with, and a story line that serves to keep young players involved.

Not so much?

Reading is a must, and it's fairly shallow (which you would expect from a game called Girls' Fashion Shoot).

Final Fiendish Findings?

Girls’ Fashion Shoot offers just about everything a little girl could ask for in a fashion model game – clothes, nails, hair, makeup, and cutesy photo editing are sure to keep your little fashionista busy this holiday season. While it’s perfect for young modeling wannabes, there is a ton of reading involved as all of the story is carried out in text, making it not appropriate for the pre-reading set (no matter how much they love throwing together the perfect look).

Rising Star Games brings a young fashionista’s dream to 3Ds with their latest release, Girls’ Fashion Shoot. More than just a simple fashion shoot, it’s a game that gives young girls the whole package modeling experience (well, what a young girl would imagine modeling to be, anyway). With hair, makeup, nails, and a whole lot of outfits to choose from, its a fun little journey to becoming a fashion model.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this game. After all, it’s meant for young girls, so I figured there was a decent chance that it would just involve trying on clothes and makeup, without a whole lot else to it. Surprisingly, there’s actually a decent story and progression built into the game that does a nice job of keeping players engaged. As you begin the game, you are getting ready to try out to be a RS fashion model. First, you choose an outfit, then you get photos taken and submit your favorite. A quick email on your cell phone confirms that you are about to begin your fashion model adventure.

At the magazine you model for, there are various jobs available each month. You select the job you want to take on, for instance a sporty shoot, or a manicure layout.  Then, you need to dress yourself appropriately for the shoot. The many articles of clothing and accessories available to you for the shoots are all labeled with a variety of tags. A dress could be labeled as flowery, casual, cute, etc. The important part is to make your outfit match the shoot as much as possible. For a preppy shoot, you’d want your top, bottom, shoes, and accessories to all have a preppy tag, ideally. If you pull it off, your boss will tell you how perfect you are. If your outfit is not up to standards, you’ll be asked to try again.

Once the look has been completed, you’ll need to do a photo shoot. You’ll choose a pose, as well as a facial expression, and then the photos are taken. Then, you are presented with four completed photos to choose from. Once you have selected your favorite, then it’s time to complete the layout. This part is pretty much a young girl’s dream.v You can pick different colors and patterns for the aura around the model and the background, add cutesy frames, and even add stickers. There are a ton to choose from, and they’re pretty heavy on hearts, flowers, and stickers. It’s pretty cute, and the sheer number of options available keeps things interesting.

Once you’ve finished your layout, the photo shoot is finished and you get paid.  If you’ve done a great job, you’ll get a bonus in addition to your pay. What do you need the money for? This is where the playing around with fashion really comes in. The modeling jobs at the magazine are fun for goal oriented players, but for little girls who just want to make their girl fancy, the option to play around is there. When you begin, your closet is pretty empty, and you only have a few modeling poses under belt. You can access all of your hair styles, makeup, and outfits in your bedroom, but filling it up is half the fun. You can take your earnings from your modeling shoots to a variety of locations to fill up your closet, and try out a bunch of new looks.

At the hair salon, you can choose from a selection of hair styles in short, medium, long, and arranged styles. There aren’t a ton to choose from, but once you’ve purchased one you can access it anytime. You can also select a different hair, which range in shades from black to light blonde. I was a little disappointed to see nothing beyond the standard black, brown, red, blonde, as I think having the option to make your model’s hair blue or add cool highlights would catch interest right from the start.

At the nail salon, you can really go crazy with the manicures. First, you select the base color, then add designs like french tips or swirls, and finally add a variety of nail art. It’s fun to play around with, but adding the nail art is a little unwieldy, as each one appears on the middle nail and must be moved around from there. The way it’s set up does mean that the nails can be exactly how you want them, even if that means a different decal on each nail.

At the makeup shop, you can purchase a variety of mascara, blush, and lipstick. These cannot be applied as you like – rather, you select the color, and it appears on your model. You can also purchase various false eyelashes and color contacts. You can try it all out before you buy, and each item comes in a number of different shades. After picking up some makeup, you can head over to the fashion shop to buy tons of new clothes and accessories, or head to the lesson studio to learn some new modeling poses. Finally, a trip to the photo studio makes sure you can immortalize your favorite looks. Everything you do outside of the magazine shoots costs money, so you’ll have to balance your shopping with working if you want to stay in the black.
