New month, new games for Xbox Gold members… but after last month’s double delight, what are we getting this month for our hard-earned bandwidth?

CastleStorm Definite Edition boxFor the Xbox One, one of last month’s games – Pool Nation FX – is remaining free for another month. But it is being joined by CastleStorm: Definite Edition, last year’s remastered version of CastleStorm from the 360/PS3 complete with all the expansions as well as a few extra game modes. Charged with defending the kingdom from invading barbarians, this is a slightly tongue-in-cheek tower defence, strategy and action game rolled into one.

Both games will be free on the system for the entire month.

Mafia 2 boxOn the 360, there is also two titles, following the normal pattern of each title being free for half of the month. To begin with we get Mafia II, 2K Games’ 2010 release which sets its sights on recreating gangster movies. Placing you in the shoes of World War 2 veteran Vito Scaletta, the game has you becoming ever more involved with the mob as you try to pay off your family debts.

Mafia II
is available from the start of the month until May 15th.

F1 2013 boxAfter that, it’s your chance to see if you can match Sebastian Vettal’s success in the 2013 Formula One season with Codemasters’ F1 2013. All eleven teams, 22 drivers and 19 tracks from the season are there, allowing you to play individual races (from short runs to actual length races), complete seasons, qualifying sessions and so on – or jumping into online multiplayer races if you prefer human opposition.

And if that doesn’t give you enough options, there is also a selection of classic cars, drivers and tracks to put your skills to, predominantly from the 1980s and handling extremely differently from the more modern racers.

F1 2013 is available from May 16th to the end of the month.

He has an especial fondness for retro gaming and observing the progressions in long running gaming series. When scandalously not caught gaming, he can also be found reading comics and fantasy fiction, or practising terrible photography.
