Red Dead Redemption May Be Hitting The PC (Rumour)

That sound you are currently hearing is the sound of a million PC gamers screaming like teenage girls.

It’s a stretch, possibly a cruel joke, but the Microsoft Compatability database has an entry listed for Rockstar’s 2010 smash hit console title, Red Dead Redemption. Which you can see here.

The listing covers ports for both Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. The database is held and updated by Microsoft in order to assess the application compatibility of software products against the different MS operating systems. Having Red Dead Redemption appear here means that, technically, the game has been tested as compatible for Windows products.

Sadly the fact that the game is listed without the correct capitalisation (Red dead redemption as opposed to Red Dead Redemption) is one reason to be concerned that this is just a hoax. The fact that Rockstar have remained notoriously tight lipped about any PC ports for Red Dead Redemption, or GTA V for that matter, is another.

While hardware and software “partners” are invited to make submissions to Microsoft’s Compatability Centre, there are the following limitations in place to mitigate against fake entries. The website lists the following requirements for a submission to the compatability centre to qualify:

For your submission to qualify, you must:

  • Be a representative of the software publisher or device manufacturer
  • Know the current compatibility status with Windows 8, Windows RT and/or Windows 7 for the product you are submitting.
  • Provide complete information we can verify (please use your corporate email address in the registration step).

As long as Microsoft haven’t been hoodwinked, then it suggests that the entry could be legitimate after all. A search for GTA V finds nothing, and presumably that would be the bigger game to hoax a PC release for. And if the title is heading to the PC, then surely a PS4 and Xbone port can’t be too far behind?

We’ll keep you up to date as we hear more!

Playing games since I'd developed enough motor functions to hold a joystick. From Commodore 64 all the way through to the latest gen. Favourite games to play are FPS games and anything with a deep and compelling story and a world that draws you in. I also enjoy writing, film making and playing bass in whatever band will have me :)
