After a lengthy and purported labour intensive (not to mentioned troubled with THQ falling by the wayside)  development cycle Ubisoft’s much anticipated South Park: The Stick of Truth is due for release on 4th March.  A game bound to cause, and indeed court, controversy it comes as a slight surprise that the title is being toned down in a few places.

home.BT.com have confirmed, with Ubisoft UK, that the game has had several scenes altered or removed from the console editions  in the UK, EU, South Africa, Middle East and Australia.

Eurogamer have verified the censored scenes include:

  • A mini-game in which the doctor is performing an abortion on the player.
  • A mini-game in which the player is performing an abortion on the character Randy.
  • Five anal probing scenes involving someone actively being probed. The scenes play out as normal before and after the active probing sequences.

Replacing these scenes will be custom built backgrounds put together by the series creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.  No real firm reasons have been given for these alteration on the home console formats other than one of “Marketing”.

The US versions of the game, and the PC edition, currently remain unchanged.

South Park : The Stick of Truth is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 4th March 2014.
