At this stage, the zombie apocalypse is pretty much confirmed as the way the world will end. Movies and games have been preparing us for this for years now – but always with a spark of hope. There are always survivors, able to survive against the odds thanks to cunning, luck, or ridiculous amounts of applied violence. Can you keep your place among the living? 505 Games have today announced a new title being developed by EKO Studios that may improve your odds, How To Survive.

Setting you in the boots of an accident survivor, trapped on an archipelago off the coast of Columbia, the screenshots reveals show a Diablo-esque viewpoint – and XP appearing gained from kills – but with gameplay promised to require more than fighting to survive. Acquiring food and water, finding shelter, and crafting tools will also be tasks before you, with the release promising “a robust crafting system” – although there are no further details to clarify what this claim will actually involve.

Multiplayer is also promised, allowing groups to try and survive together or take on a challenge mode, dealing with “a growing array of the infected”.

How To Survive is planned for release this autumn, to be available for Xbox Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PCs via Steam.

When scandalously not caught gaming, he can also be found reading comics and fantasy fiction, or practising terrible photography.
