This Week In Entertainment Vol. 5

The holidays are over and we’re back with another edition of This Week In Entertainment. So the question is, as always. What is happening this week in the world of entertainment?

Netflix & Time Warner Warner Bro’s have unveiled a new agreement that will license the web-based company to house complete seasons of its serialized shows. This will include NBC’s Revolution as well as eight other shows, making Netflix the exclusive outlet for complete seasons from the 2012-2013 season. The agreement also leaves open the possibility for more shows in the coming years as well. Warner Bros. has previously mostly struck deals with Netflix that cover older TV content.   Source.

Director Fede Alvarez has long promised to take the Evil Dead series back to its grimy, gory roots, and judging by the recent trailer for his remake of the original film, that’s exactly what he’s achieved. And according to Alvarez, part of that unvarnished appeal lies in the absence of any CGI, with everything contained in the film having been shot “as real”. “We didn’t do any CGI in the movie,” says Alvarez. “There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night.”  Source.

Casting for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is kicking into high gear with plenty of names being thrown around for the role of Peter Quill (Star-Lord). On the short list from Marvel films is Joseph Gordon Levitt who recently starred in the hit comic book based movie The Dark Knight Rises, John Krasinski (The Office) who was also considered for the part of Captain America and Michael Rosenbaum who played Lex Luthor on the CW’s Smallville. These three join Zachary Levy and Jim Sturgess who were earlier mentioned for consideration by the studio.  Source.

In related news, it has been confirmed that Hayley Atwell will not be returning for the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Sad news for fans of the no nonsense love interest Peggy Carter. Marvel is still searching for the new female lead, who it is suspected will be Peggy’s younger sister Sharon Carter.  No casting has been confirmed but it is rumored that Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, Allison Brie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are all possible candidates. Whichever lovely lady is cast will join Chris Evans as Captain and Sebastian Stan who reprises his role as Bucky Barnes.

The first four minutes of the February 1st release Warm Bodies is now online! The clip features R (Nicholas Hoult) taking the audience through the life of a zombie. You can watch it below:

There are several reasons to be excited for the upcoming Golden Globes Ceremony which will air January 13th. The stars, the glamour, rooting for your favorite film or TV Show…but this year there is even more to be excited for as Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler prepare to suit up for hosting duties. The pair, close friends in real life, recently released this new promo for one of Hollywood’s biggest nights.

Jamie Foxx who was recently cast as the villain Electro in the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man 2 says that he can’t give much away but that he was also a big fan of the web slinging hero.” I’m going to keep it close to the chest but I followed the Spider-Man comic books,” says Foxx “And I would watch the television show growing up. It’s a blessing (to be cast).” The actor also gives credit to his Django Unchained director, “It’s another testament to Quentin Tarantino because without Django I wouldn’t be doing Spider-Man.”    Source.

Star Wars creator and licensing guru George Lucas announced his engagement on Thursday. Lucas and his girlfriend of 7 years Mellody Hobson, the chairwoman of Dream Works Animation, will tie the knot at an unspecified date and location. It will be the first marriage for Hobson and the second for Lucas.  Source.

Once Upon A Time (OUAT) fans will be happy to know that Neal Cassidy will be returning to the show for the rest of the season, at the very least. Michael Raymond-James who was discovered to be Henry’s father in the episode “Tallahassee”, revealed the news via twitter. How will this effect Emma and Henry? Well have to wait and see!  Source.

Star Wars Episode VII is a long way off, but what little is surfacing about the film is being gobbled up by an eager fan base.  The latest tidbit comes from Peter Scrietta from slashfilm who suggests that the lead in the upcoming trilogy may be a woman! This is great news for female fans of the iconic series who have noticed a distinct lack of female characters throughout the franchise. Leia, Padme/Amidala and Anakin’s mother were the only women with speaking roles throughout all six films. Scrietta insisted that his tweet be included on the site slashfilm.com and suggest that he may have some inside information about the film’s pre-production.
