After the success in the interactive entertainment industries, Rovio Entertainment has decided to take the Angry Birds franchise to the next level. They have officially confirmed an Angry Birds movie coming to theaters in 2016. Rovio Entertainment have hired producers for the movie which is believed to be a 3D computer-generated full-length film.

Despicable Me producer John Cohen has signed on to produce it with the former Chairman of Marvel Studios, David Maisel, as the executive producer. David Maisel has worked on movies like The Avengers, Thor, Iron Man 1 & 2 and many more. He explains the goal for the film as:

“It has to be everything that you’d expect from an Angry Birds movie as a fan of the game, plus so much more with surprises, innovative things and twists,” said Maisel. “It’s something that we’ve worked already a lot on and we will over the next few years. It’s an experience that you’ll say, ‘Wow, I didn’t expect that.’ ”

Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment, had this to say about the duo:

“John’s an exceptionally talented producer, and we’re delighted to have him join the flock. With John’s hands-on producer background and David´s expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system. Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things.”

At this point of time, the idea of green pigs stealing some birds’ eggs and making them angry doesn’t seem to be as good a plot for a movie as it was for a portable game for smartphones. However, it will be interesting to see how the studio integrates that idea into the film. Fans of the series will have to keep their fingers crossed in hopes that the movie will meet their expectation.
