Sometimes Gaming Is The Best Medicine
And then internet brings us a truly heartwarming story….Whether you are a diehard video game fan or someone who isn’t so sure it’s a good thing, few can argue with the miraculous nature that video games have played in the life of one young girl. In an absolutely beautiful story by the girl’s father, Mike Schilling tells the heartbreaking story of how video games both helped them in diagnosing and controlling their daughter’s Tourette’s Syndrome.
I won’t go into too much detail here, as this is a story truly told best by Mike himself. You can find the whole story by Mike Schilling here on The Verge. Mike pulls no punches when he discusses every parents’ nightmare of knowing that there is something wrong with his daughter, and the horrible trips back and forth to doctors who could not figure out what was wrong. Through it all, video games were the thing that occupied them, brought them together, and ulitmately lead to a diagnosis. It’s a great story, and well worth reading.
