Bethesda Softworks have cut the ribbon on a new studio based in Austin, Texas known as Battlecry Studios, and is already working on an unannounced IP.

The studio itself will be headed up by Rich Vogel, who left Bioware back in July from his role as executive producer for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Vogel brings a considerable 20+ years of experience to the new enterprise, having previously headed up Ultima Online and Star Wars: Galaxies.

Given that Bethesdas Softworks’ current roster of studios (id, Arkane Studios, Bethesda Game Studios) are mostly in the business of chucking out FPS/RPG titles such as Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Dishonored and Rage. Then the safe money is betting on the unannounced title being along those lines.

Backing this theory up is not only the background of Vogel himself, but also the job listings for the studio. The Lead Designer post requires a strong knowledge on FPS/RPG games, and there is a seperate job also for a monetization designer. Which suggests that the studio could be working on a free to play MMO title.

Playing games since I'd developed enough motor functions to hold a joystick. From Commodore 64 all the way through to the latest gen. Favourite games to play are FPS games and anything with a deep and compelling story and a world that draws you in. I also enjoy writing, film making and playing bass in whatever band will have me :)
